Postpartum Depression: Part 3 – What NOT to Say

Postpartum Depression.  Chances are you’ve been around someone who has been affected.  Maybe you knew it, maybe you didn’t.  When we know that someone is struggling we often want to help; offer a kind word or some practical advice.  But what if no one actually asked for your advice and your words are more hurtful than helpful?  What then?  Do we say nothing at all – attempting to pretend that everything is fine?

Every situation is specific to the individual and we all respond differently when things get tough.  Here’s a great article on 5 Things Not To Say To A Women With Postpartum Depression – – And What To Say Instead from the Huffington Post.  In the end, encourage her to get the support she needs and just be there for her – whatever that may look like.
