Winter Date Ideas in Lethbridge

One of the most-visited pages on our website has been the “Date Night in Lethbridge” blog that we posted in the summer of 2017.  As this cold weather doesn’t seem to be leaving anytime soon, we thought we’d post an update with some ideas for our current winter climate.

During the winter, it can be pretty easy to stay bundled up at home.  That’s great for awhile, but sometimes you just need to get out!  Hopefully this will provide you with a few ideas.

For the adventurous couple…

While it may have been many years since you’ve gotten on a toboggan, there is something so carefree about sliding down a hill with the wind down blowing through your hair, cheeks getting red in the fresh winter air.  There are many hills to choose from, some being slow and easy, and others bound to get your heart racing!  Afterwards, you can warm up over a hot cup of coffee or hot chocolate in one of Lethbridge’s many unique coffee spots.

Outside isn’t your thing?  True North Axe Throwing might just be the thing for you – their instructors will teach you the basics, along with safety rules, and then you can see which one of you has better aim.

For the bookworms…

Is there anything cozier than a good book on a cold winter evening?  Though this book store may seem small on the outside, don’t be deceived.  Whether it is recent bestsellers, Archie Digests or unique non-fiction books, you’ll find a great variety of each.  After you find a title that catches your eye, you could continue your date by taking a short walk just two doors down to the Penny Coffee House, where you can enjoy reading together over a warm bowl of soup and a sandwich or maybe a piece of home-baked pie and coffee.  The Penny is open until 8:30, so no need to rush!

The art community in Lethbridge is thriving!  Whether you love to admire pieces in a gallery or sit and listen to the Symphony, the Allied Arts Council of Lethbridge has a full listing of all the different things that are available.  There is a variety of free events, as well as ticketed concerts and showings – check out their calendar to see what would interest you.

For the energetic or active couples…

Feel like cabin fever is getting the best of you?  Get out and get active!  Exercise has been shown to help beat the winter blues, so go out and try something new.  Maybe it’s a spin class or trying out a new gym, maybe it’s going for a run, maybe it’s Zumba!

Do you love a good challenge?  Work together to figure out the clues to beat the challenge and escape the different rooms at Underground Escape.  Once you’ve escaped, you might want to try another room, or you might want to walk upstairs and enjoy a yummy specialty waffle at Frank’s Redwood.  You’ll be enjoying yourself so much, you won’t even remember how cold it is outside!

Check out Smudge Art Studio – sign up for a class or take part in one of their Open Studio nights.  There’s opportunity to paint on canvas or perhaps glass, or maybe even try your hand at pottery.  No experience required!  You could round out your evening with an amazing supper at the Mango Tree, or for some Indian food.

Want to spend time together without spending a lot of money?  Pick up a coffee to go (or fill your travel mug before you leave home) or go for a walk in one of Lethbridge’s beautiful parks.  Stop by either branch of the Lethbridge Public Library – don’t forget to sign up for your free library card! – and peruse the shelves of books or maybe enjoy some tunes at one of the vinyl listening stations.  Enjoy a movie at the Movie Mill for $5 (or $3 on Tuesdays!)
