LPCC volunteers are the main point of contact for LPCC clients, providing compassionate support and education to anyone experiencing unexpected pregnancy and pregnancy related losses, as well as programs encouraging healthy relationships.
Volunteer Job Description
Morning shifts: 9 AM-1 PM | Afternoon shifts: 12:30 PM-4:30PM
Day and time of scheduled volunteer shifts depend on client need and volunteer strengths.
Advocacy (Direct Client Care)
This position reports to the Client Services Director. An advocate is trained in Trauma Informed Care from a permission-based, non-judgmental approach to offer compassionate peer support to clients. This includes information on options: Adoption, Abortion, and Parenting, active listening, referring to community supports and resources, facilitating one to one programming (post-adoption care, post-abortion care, healthy relationships, pregnancy related grief and loss, reaching my goals, etc.). Time Commitment: Weekly four hour shifts for one year.
Resource / Admin (Limited Direct Client Care)
This position reports to the Client Services Director. A resource volunteer is trained in the basic knowledge of who and what our organization does. They come in for a 4-hour shift once a week to help sort donations, restock, clean, enter data and help with admin, etc. They occasionally may meet with clients in the resource room. This position is essential for our clients to be well supported. Time Commitment: Weekly four hour shifts for one year.
Duties and Responsibilities May Include:
- Obtain client information to determine what supports are required.
- Provide information and answer questions regarding all options available to a pregnant woman in Canada.
- Provide encouragement and support to clients taking a pregnancy test.
- Provide information to clients regarding community resources.
- Assist clients in choosing maternity/baby clothes and other material supports.
- Provide ongoing encouragement and support to clients as requested, both in person and via phone/text/email, before, during, and after a pregnancy, or pregnancy loss.
- Accept and sort material donations.
- Clean the Centre, including dusting, vacuuming, mopping, and cleaning glass and bathrooms.
- Administrative tasks.
- Sharing the gospel or discussing Christian faith as clients seek or request.
Qualifications
- Over the age of 18.
- Fluent in English.
- Basic computer skills.
- Willing and able to complete LPCC volunteer training.
- Willing and able to commit to a 4 hour shift, once a week for a minimum of 1 year.
- Able to demonstrate understanding and empathy to clients, regardless of race, colour, religion, creed, national origin, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, or lifestyle.
- Able to work cooperatively with others.
- Able to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Able to sign all LPCC Core Documents.
Physical Requirements
- Some lifting may be required when sorting and putting away clothing donations.
