Jaycee* was stricken with fear when the pregnancy test came back positive. Having recently moved to Canada with her family, she was already adjusting to many new things. Her parents didn’t know that she had been sexually active with her boyfriend back home and now she was pregnant and living oceans away from him. Afraid of how her parents would react, Jaycee decided to investigate terminating the pregnancy. She had heard about abortions and that they were legal in Canada, she hoped this would be the easy answer. But Jaycee had many questions, she was terrified and felt very alone in her situation.
“I recently migrated to Canada; my partner is back in my hometown. My family doesn’t know that I am pregnant. I am too young. If I choose to give birth to the baby what will happen? I am just a student. Will there be a cost?”
Through an advocate at the LPCC Jaycee found helpful and factual information on all her options. She also found the courage to talk to her parents about her situation. A few days later she told her advocate: “I talked to my parents! I was only considering abortion because I was scared that they would get mad, but they were calm and very supportive of my decision to keep the baby. Thanks for helping me!”
Jaycee no longer feels alone, she is surrounded by the people she loves and has their support for the road ahead.
